Another Day Living the American Dream

A day of students of journalism would not be more well-spent than having classes with professor Alison Boggs, having discussion with editors of The Spokesman-Review and a tour in KHQ-Q6 TV station.

Pullman, Washington State – On Wednesday morning we made our way to Spokane for the class with Ms. Alison Boggs with whom we talked about content and structure of news and stories.

“Journalism runs in my veins”, said Professor Boggs the other day and I felt it to bits. I will quote her for the rest of my life because that is exactly the definition of journalism for me.

We are so focused in our classes and enjoying them because we feel free to express ourselves and our views regarding many issues, and have learned a lot from Professor Boggs and others.

Finally, today we had the chance to visit The Spokesman-Review, the newspaper we had been hearing about a lot. Some of our instructors who worked for The Spokesman-Review for many years told us good things about this newspaper and it definitely lived up to those expectations. We were fascinated with SR and spent a quality afternoon with editors there.

With them we talked about journalism in the Western Balkan countries and they told us what is going on with media in the United States. We both agreed that nothing should stop journalists from doing their very professional and unbiased work. Not even the calls that “journalists are the enemies of people”.

The Spokesman-Review made me understand, once again, that storms come and go but journalists will always find their way to write and report.

On our agenda was a visit to the KHQ-Q6 studios while being in Spokane, and so we did. Some students from our group are very interested in TV reports and it was a good opportunity to get a closer look at how they ‘cooked’ everything that is served on people’s screens.
