Restore: Built on a Concept
Today we, SUSI-Civic engagement students, went to a Restore. This is not a mainstream store, but a store built on a special concept. The concept is about accepting donations of new and used furniture and other household items gathered from the community. These items will then be sold at a reduced cost, therefore people with a lower income will be able to buy items of high quality, which they would usually not be able to afford in mainstream stores.
Today our task was to help clean the items for the customers. We even managed to sell a fridge. The customer was very grateful for the work we delivered. I felt like these small tasks make a huge difference for the community members. I also had great conversations with the other customers and staff members, it made me realize that stores like these make a big difference for families with a lower income. I am very grateful for having the opportunity to contribute to this amazing cause.
