Acquiring Crucial Skills
Today, our SUSI group cohort had a very intense day. For the very first time, we were able to fully demonstrate public speaking skills. Our assignment for today was to make an overview of the “Beyond the Skills Gap” book as well as to share our attitude on the skills gap issue. We were divided into 9 groups and each group has to outline the key points of a certain chapter of the book. Three groups presented first 3 chapters of the book.
After that, we had a group discussion regarding the increasing role of so-called soft skills. We managed to cover such important skills as self-confidence and its impact on our lives, self-awareness and whether you can acquire these skills through practice or special training.
After that, we headed to the MathWorks, an American corporation which specializes in software programming. We were able to meet with MathWorks’ employees who demonstrated us the massive work that has been done over the past 35 years since company was founded.
Personally, I had a chance to practice my public speaking skills and it served me well as I believe that acquiring soft skills is a crucial part of our lives.
