The Last SUSI Friday in Chattanooga

What can be better than start a new day with having the most traditional southern American breakfast ever? Right! Start it with amazing people around you. Together with the Executive Director of Center for Global Education at UTC, Takeo Suzuki, some of SUSI leaders could enjoy both the atmosphere of City Cafe Diner and the informational session about the opportunities for American graduate schools. Such a great chance to get some really valuable tips for those willing to continue their education in the USA!

The last morning class of this week turned out to be extremely interesting. We had the honor to meet and ask some questions to Mr. Thomas Griscom, the former Director of White House Communications under President Ronald Regan. The facts and stories you learn from such a person probably cannot be found in any history book. Mr. Griscom touched upon such issues as presidential elections, media, communication, fake news, international relations and others. Everybody was especially curious about some pictures, President Reagan’s handwriting, memorandums on summits and other items Mr. Gimsom had with him.

The second part of the day was marked by entrepreneurial engagement at Green Spaces. Representatives of this nonprofit told us about their mission which is to advance the sustainability of living, working, and building in Chattanooga and the surrounding region. Green Spaces educates local neighborhoods to use energy and other utilities wisely. It also encourages businesses and builders to reduce waste and become more environmentally responsible. The SUSI leaders ended up participating in an outdoor scavenger hunt trying to find all environmentally friendly items from the given list including a green roof, pervious pavement, electric bike and so on. The first team to complete the task got some T-shirts with Green Spaces logo!
