Bumpy Roads to Charleston
Four hours of riding bumpy roads were worth to visit Charleston and our special locations today. The first one was the Charleston Audubon Society, where we were told about environmental issues protection that are done by this organization. Our group was amazed by the scale of virgin nature saved and also by the majestic peaceful beauty of swamp forest.
The second part of our today’s adventure was in the South Carolina Advocates for Epilepsy center, where volunteers shared with us their touching and unforgettable experience about taking care of people with epilepsy. Together we had a nice dinner, long talks about life in our countries, the rights of people with epilepsy, the causes of this disease and ways of curing. After that our group helped S.A.F.E. volunteers to make the caps that are used for patients scheduled for inpatient, outpatient EEG's, and played together with the kids.
The most touching moment of the day for me was when I met a girl with epilepsy who looked like my cousin. She is only a school student, but a very strong and ambitious young woman with a great wish to become a wild nature scientist in the future. This conversation inspired me to work harder on establishing my own civic engagement project, that would help such determined young people.
Thank you for such an opportunity to get this precious experience and to bring it to my community!
