Study, Adapt, and Overcome!
Today marks the second wonderful day of the Human Rights & Diversity in the U.S. topic of study this week for the SUSI group in Columbia, SC! We began our morning session with a great discussion about values, prejudice, and racial discourse. In order to understand our diverse communities and tackle problems together, we need to be aware of the privilege and majority/minority status around us.
We were also welcomed by Dr. Todd Shaw, Associate Professor and Department Chair in Political Science. Dr. Shaw delivered a brilliant and insightful presentation about current racial discrimination and segregation in the U.S. society in comparison with the past. Nonetheless, questions from the students eventually led to a fruitful discussion about the on-going politics and possible solutions to racial discrimination.
