Day at the Farm!

The meaning of permaculture is “the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient”. But what we experienced in the Lost Valley Education and Event Centre was much more.
The Saturday started with a class about permaculture. Brian, the expert on the topic, taught us all about this environmental way of living. Permaculture is more than a sustainable and self-sufficient agriculture, it is based in certain ethics and values that are divided in: earth care, people care, and fair share. After this introduction, we visited the farm and learned more about the community itself. But our day was only getting started!

Our strength and determination were about to be tested in the fields, since we volunteered to help prepare the land to plant beans (taking out the old roots and planting the seeds), and to free a tree that was surrounded by other plants.
When we finished our rewarding volunteer experience, vegetarian home-made dinner with ingredients from the farm was served. The day finished with a dance opened to the public.
This was a truly rewarding and pedagogic experience, since we learned how we can respect the environment, but still have a comfortable and happy life.
