WARNING!
Days like this should come with a warning:
YOU’LL EXPERIENCE MORE THAN WHAT YOU THINK YOU COULD TAKE. AND YOU’LL LOVE IT.
One last time we had the opportunity to spend the morning with Dr. Dawson. This time we talked about privilege and although the conversation took on other kinds of privilege I kept thinking about how much I feel honored to be in this program, in the U.S., and in Chattanooga.
From all the people we met to the ones we keep meeting. From volunteering to visiting companies and to, as it happened today, having lunch at the Rotary Club of Chattanooga. Being emerged in an environment of such successful and accomplished people had an impact in all of us. We want to be like them, we want to help the communities we are involved in, and being a part of SUSI is only the beginning. This lunch made us reflect on what our role is and should be.
There was more to today though. After spending a few hours at a wood rustic looking coffee shop, some of us went for dinner at the very famous and unskippable Champy’s. It was a truly tasty way to start the night.
Is it strange that what I will remember as one of the best nights in Chattanooga was the one where fried chicken was followed by a private concert?
Absolutely not.
The “southern charm” made it possible to build the perfect atmosphere where great music (by Thomas Csorba) echoed in a beautifully lighten backyard involved by the peaceful Signal Mountain.
At the end of the day, it was impossible not to get emotional as we realized that the opportunities we have to be together are getting scarce and the time to say goodbye is approaching in lighting speed.
