Crash Course: Leadership Development
On Thursday, June 23rd, it was time for leadership development as well engagement with a local NGO. The day started with an hour drive to an outdoors facility, just outside of Columbia, SC. The weather and the spirits of the participants were high and we were all excited about the low-ropes course, which focused on leadership development.
Though none of us had ever participated in a low-ropes course, we all enjoyed it tremendously. As we went through the different tasks we gained an understanding of the essentials in leadership, such as the importance of trust, experimenting with novel ideas, and encouraging others to get out of their comfort zone.
After having lunch at a Chick-fil A, a local chicken fast food joint, we went to Habit for Humanity, an organisation helping the lesser fortunate ones with home-ownership.
Personnel from Habitat for Humanity demonstrated on how they go about with their work, such as the donations of home items, the refurbishment of the received items, the volunteering service they run, and finally how they help financing homes for those in need.
All in all another great day for the participants of Civic Engagement in Columbia, SC.
