Charleston: The City of Dreams

Charleston, South Carolina – the city where one of my favorite movies The Notebook was created. Unfortunately, this fact was the only one I knew before coming here. But Charleston appeared to be even much more than the city of romance. After spending just one day in this beautiful area, I’m convinced – it’s the city of dreams. But let’s start from the beginning...

“Hi, today I will introduce you with Charleston’s ghosts”.

This was the first greeting we’ve received after we entered the city. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? That was our carriage tour guide, who with his magnificent stories and the real Southern American accent revealed the history and the charm of Charleston like anyone can even imagine. Do you know that if there is or was a ghost in your house, your apartment’s cost rises more than twice? Do you know that the first game of golf played in the U.S. took place there too? Those and thousands of other questions were answered with the sound of hoof beats!

It was the first time for many of us to have an opportunity to take a carriage ride, so it was even more fascinating. But our journey did not stop there, not even close! We visited the aquarium, the College of Charleston, Kings Street (where we were lusting over luscious jewelry and fantasizing about fashion while visiting deluxe shops), the old city market, tens of breathtaking churches (Charleston calls itself the “Holy City” because of its many places of worship and skyline full of church steeples.), the Charleston Museum, Gibbes Museum of Arts, and the most important thing – the ocean.

It may sound silly, but it has been our dream since we arrived here! Water in many cultures symbolizes peacefulness and calmness and after a week full of discussions, debates and lectures, it was the best way to compose oneself. In this way we were charmed by Charleston – the city where your wishes come true.
