Getting Acquainted
The day started with great breakfast with lovely welcoming faces from USC café staff. We had yummy eggs and bacon with lots of coffee. Then we headed to the Hipp Close building where most of our classes are held. The first day's biggest obstacles were dealing with the heat and jet lag.
We had very productive day that started with Christopher Reid that introduced his experience volunteering with different organizations and how main American volunteering organizations work.
After lunch we had great pleasure to meet Sylvie Dessau from organization called Moms Demand Action Against Gun Violence. The work that these men and women do it remarkable and so important for America. Also Sylvie thought us step-by-step how to raise awareness and how to make your voice to be heard.
Last, but not least, we had the opportunity to learn about club organizations that are available in University of South Carolina. We learned that USC has great number of activities to be engaged and great number of students at the university participate in a number of clubs. Also volunteering is very valued by the school and community.
It has been great is to see how the group gets to know each other more and more. We have a great group with interesting and smart people who have amazing potential in civic engagement. Everybody has great experiences in different fields, including the organizers who are super helpful. These people help us with everything and anything. I especially love the energy and will to give the best in the program. I can not wait to see how the project will turn out and how much beauty and great memories we will have here in the USA.
